Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a contractor to provide Phase 1 wayfinding signage at OR Tambo International Airport over a period of twelve months. The service aims to upgrade and maintain signage standards to ensure safety, compliance with regulations, and effective navigation within the airport premises. The contractor will advise on potential risks, conduct condition assessments, and deliver professional signage installation and maintenance services to uphold airport safety and operational standards.

Scope

The scope includes the design, supply, installation, inspection, and maintenance of wayfinding signage across various airport zones, including:

• Landside areas (disclaimer signs, directional signs, trolley bay indicators, etc.)
• Terminals A, B, and CTB (directional, check-in, gate, and facility signage)
• Remote areas (Cargo, ATNS, Super South, Airside roads)
• Multi-Storey Parkade (digital signs, speed limits, disclaimers)
• Other signage as needed for safety, safety compliance, and operational clarity

The work involves replacing damaged, outdated, or non-compliant signage, installing new signs, and conducting regular inspections bi-weekly. The scope also covers signage for emergency, directional, informational, and regulatory purposes across the airport.

Technical Requirements

• Signage must comply with national legislation, airport safety standards, and traffic regulations, including SA road traffic regulations and HIP reflective materials.
• Design and installation must adhere to industry standards, including durability, visibility, and safety considerations.
• Signage sizes, materials, and installation methods must meet specified dimensions and safety standards.
• Signage inspection and maintenance are to be conducted bi-weekly, with defect reporting and corrective actions documented.
• All signage must be installed with proper anchoring, support, and surface preparation to prevent damage or safety hazards.
• Emergency response and contingency plans must be in place for site safety and operational continuity.
• Signage installation must be coordinated with airport operational hours, with night work permitted from 22:00 to 04:00.

Skills Requirements

• Senior Graphic Designer: Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or Multimedia Design. Responsible for signage design, branding, and material selection.
• Project Manager: Minimum National Diploma in Graphic Design or Fine Art. Oversees project execution, site surveys, approvals, and quality control.
• Electrician: Wireman’s license and Trade Test (Red Seal). Responsible for electrical wiring, testing, and ensuring electrical safety standards are met.
• Occupational Health & Safety Officer: National Diploma in OHS Management, SACPCMP membership. Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations, conducts risk assessments, and manages safety protocols.
• Other personnel: Skilled workers for signage installation, anchoring, surface preparation, and inspection, with relevant experience and certifications.

All key personnel must have relevant qualifications, experience, and be approved by the client’s Service Manager. Replacement personnel must meet or exceed the qualifications of the original team members.
