Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a suitable service provider to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for Eikenhof Farm within the City of Johannesburg Municipality. The assessment aims to evaluate environmental impacts associated with proposed activities, including screening, site assessment, and development planning, ensuring environmental compliance and sustainable development.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Conducting a comprehensive environmental impact assessment process, including screening and scoping.
• Assessment of existing and future land use activities such as abattoirs, production facilities, broiler and layer farming.
• Site visits, including site mapping and stakeholder network analysis.
• Water testing of boreholes at Eikenhof Farm and northern farms, including borehole water certification.
• Preparation of environmental reports, development of mitigation measures, and recommendations for food resilience strategies.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the tender include:

• Provision of a detailed environmental impact assessment report compliant with Regulation 2014 (as amended).
• Assessment of both existing and future planned activities on the site.
• Inclusion of borehole water testing and certification for six boreholes.
• Adherence to environmental legislation and regulations.
• Demonstration of understanding of project scope through a detailed approach and methodology.
• Provision of relevant project experience, including completed projects and qualified personnel.
• Registration and certification with the Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa (EAPASA).

Skills Requirements

The skills and qualifications required for the service provider include:

• Environmental science or agricultural studies qualifications, with higher qualifications (Honours, Masters, PhD) preferred.
• Relevant experience in conducting EIAs, with a minimum number of completed projects (preferably more than 5).
• Qualified project leader with relevant certifications and recent (not older than 6 months) professional qualifications.
• Registration with EAPASA as a registered environmental assessment practitioner or candidate.
• Knowledge of environmental legislation, water testing procedures, and environmental management practices.
• Ability to prepare comprehensive environmental reports, develop mitigation strategies, and communicate findings effectively.
