Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure professional services for the design of furniture at King Phalo Airport. The services aim to develop comprehensive furniture layouts, specifications, and designs that meet operational, safety, and accessibility standards, ensuring functional and durable solutions for the airport environment.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Conducting site assessments to understand furniture requirements and workflow needs.
• Developing detailed office and terminal furniture layouts and designs.
• Providing specifications and proposed layouts for all designated areas.
• Ensuring designs comply with health, safety, and accessibility standards.
• Supervising and managing the construction and installation of furniture.
• Coordinating project activities, including stakeholder engagement and approvals.
• Managing project phases from planning, design, procurement, to construction and close-out.
• Implementing operational readiness and transfer (ORAT) processes for seamless handover.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements encompass:

• Adherence to relevant standards and codes, including South African legislation and international best practices.
• Provision of qualified and experienced personnel, including a registered Interior Designer with relevant project experience.
• Development of detailed drawings, specifications, and layouts in compliance with the Employer’s standards.
• Implementation of quality control procedures aligned with ISO 9000 or equivalent standards.
• Preparation of comprehensive project documentation, including progress reports, meeting minutes, and as-built records.
• Supervision of construction activities to ensure conformity with design intent and safety standards.
• Coordination with other project disciplines and stakeholders to minimize interference with airport operations.

Skills Requirements

The tender mandates the following skills and qualifications:

• Professional registration in interior design or related disciplines (e.g., IID registration).
• Minimum of 2 references demonstrating experience in similar furniture design projects.
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or equivalent.
• Strong project management and coordination skills, with experience in airport or similar complex environments.
• Knowledge of South African legislation, safety standards, and international codes relevant to airport infrastructure.
• Effective communication and reporting skills to facilitate stakeholder engagement and project updates.
• Ability to supervise construction and ensure quality standards are met throughout the project lifecycle.
