Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to select a qualified service provider to carry out waterproofing repairs for Joburg City Theatres, ensuring durable, compliant, and high-quality waterproofing solutions that meet industry standards and extend the lifespan of the theatre structures.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Preparation of work areas by stripping existing waterproofing materials.
• Application of a 4mm torch-on waterproofing membrane with proper overlaps and sealing.
• Protection coating involving two coats of reflective aluminium paint.
• Inspection, sign-off, and warranty provision for a minimum of 5 years.
• Adherence to safety, quality, and compliance standards as specified.

The work areas include multiple sections of the Joburg Theatre and Soweto Theatre roofs and related structures, with specific measurements and locations detailed in the tender documentation.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Removal of existing waterproofing materials and proper disposal.
• Surface priming with suitable bitumen-based primer.
• Installation of a 4mm torch-on waterproofing membrane, ensuring proper lap overlaps and manufacturer compliance.
• Application of two coats of reflective aluminium paint for protection.
• All work to conform to applicable SANS standards and local building codes.
• Certification and training of installation personnel in torch-on membrane application.
• Inspection and sign-off at each phase of work.
• Provision of a minimum 5-year warranty on materials and workmanship.

Materials used must be ISO 9001 accredited, and variation orders require written approval from the JCT Project Manager.

Skills Requirements

The successful service provider must demonstrate:

• Proven experience with at least 5 similar waterproofing projects, supported by appointment letters or reference certificates.
• Qualified personnel including:
• Site Foreman/Manager with NQF level 4 qualification or equivalent, and at least 4 years of relevant experience.
• Construction Health and Safety Officer with a National Diploma in Safety Management, SACPCMP registration, and 3 years of occupational safety experience.
• Compliance with relevant legislation, including Occupational Health and Safety Act (85 of 1993) and COID Act.
• Membership in recognized professional bodies such as the Waterproofing Federation of South Africa or equivalent.
• Capability to provide comprehensive safety files, project implementation plans, and detailed technical quotations.
• Adequate insurance coverage, including public liability insurance of at least R2 million.

The bidder must also demonstrate organizational capacity, technical expertise, and adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards throughout the project duration.
