Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure and implement a zoned background music and paging audio system for Joburg Theatre’s Stages Restaurant. The system must facilitate power amplification, control, testing, configuration, and commissioning of the audio setup to support background music distribution and paging across three independently controllable zones, ensuring seamless operation and user control.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Supply, installation, testing, configuration, and commissioning of a zoned background music and paging audio system.
• Powering and controlling existing ceiling and wall-mounted loudspeakers.
• Provision of intuitive zone-based control via wall-mounted controllers.
• Audio signal processing, amplification, cabling, and labour; no new loudspeakers are required.
• Configuration of the system into three zones with independent volume and muting controls.
• Support for both 100V line and low-impedance loudspeaker operation.
• Provision of central DSP-based routing, EQ, dynamics, and protection.
• Supply and installation of speaker cabling and network/control cabling.
• Installation, programming, testing, commissioning, and documentation of the system.

Technical Requirements

System Components

• DSP Processor: Application-based digital signal processor with at least 8 analogue line-level inputs/outputs, 48 kHz sampling rate, integrated DSP (EQ, dynamics, routing), Ethernet port, rack-mountable (1U).
• Amplifiers: 4 independent channels, minimum 250W RMS per channel, configurable for 100V line or low impedance (down to 4 Ohms), with Euroblock outputs, rack-mountable (1U).
• Control Devices: Wall-mounted controllers with control over zone volume, source selection, and system configuration via RS-485/Ethernet, compatible with third-party control protocols.
• Speakers: Existing ceiling and wall-mounted speakers (6 × 100V line, 8 × 8.5" ceiling speakers); no new loudspeakers required.

Infrastructure & Cabling

• Speaker cabling: 100V-rated and low-impedance cables, properly sized and labelled.
• Network/control cabling: CAT5e or CAT6 for DSP configuration and wall controller communication, with proper termination and labelling.

Installation & Commissioning

• Rack mounting of DSP and amplifiers with neat cable management.
• Configuration of DSP for zoning, routing, EQ, and speaker protection.
• Functional testing of all speakers and zones, verification of impedance, polarity, and signal integrity.
• End-user demonstration and handover documentation including as-built diagrams, system configuration files, datasheets, and warranty info.

Skills Requirements

• Qualified audio system integrators with experience in DSP configuration, amplification, and zone control systems.
• Technical expertise in network cabling, termination, and testing.
• Capability to install, program, and commission audio systems in hospitality environments.
• Ability to produce detailed documentation and provide end-user training/demonstration.
• Compliance with safety standards and venue-specific technical standards.
