Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the drilling and construction of boreholes at Mahlabathini, Kwa-ceza Area. The project aims to support community access to water through the drilling of boreholes, installation of pumps, tanks, reticulation pipes, and associated infrastructure, ensuring sustainable water supply solutions.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Drilling of two boreholes using various drilling techniques (percussion reaming, rotary percussion, etc.).
• Supply and installation of borehole casings, pumps (4 x 0.37kW), and associated control panels.
• Construction of manholes, capping of boreholes, and installation of level sensing probes.
• Supply and installation of steel header tanks (2 x 12kl), water tanks (8kl), and reticulation piping (up to 8 km).
• Trenching, backfilling, and pipe laying according to engineering standards.
• Installation of standpipes, fencing of boreholes and tanks, and livestock water troughs.
• Provision of electrical works including starter panels, cables, and probes.
• Testing, commissioning, and handover of all installed equipment.
• Additional civil and mechanical works such as fencing, backfilling, and construction of manholes.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Drilling using percussion reaming, rotary percussion, and other specified methods.
• Supply and installation of borehole pumps with flow rates between 1 to 10 l/s.
• Use of suitable casings, HDPE pipes, fittings, and non-return valves.
• Installation of flow meters with calibration certificates and brass fittings.
• Construction of manholes (2.5m x 2.5m x 1.5m) and capping of boreholes.
• Provision of header tanks, reticulation pipes, trenches, and backfilling in line with engineering standards.
• Electrical installations including starter panels, probes, cables, and control systems.
• Testing and commissioning in accordance with SABS/SANS standards, with certification of compliance.

Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• Relevant experience in borehole drilling and water infrastructure projects, supported by contactable references or certificates of completion.
• Competence in operating drilling equipment and installing water supply infrastructure.
• Capability to undertake electrical and mechanical installations as specified.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards, including the preparation of risk assessments and safety plans.
• Ability to conduct geotechnical investigations and produce approved reports.
• Community liaison and stakeholder management skills, including local labor utilization.
• Provision of qualified personnel, including a safety officer and project management team.
