Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to refurbish and replace the infrastructure for the water supply system to Meggie Tsiu Resha Building, ensuring a reliable and efficient water supply. The project aims to upgrade existing water infrastructure, connect the building to the municipal water main, and establish backup systems to prevent water shortages and improve water quality for the occupants.

Scope

The scope of the project includes:

• Connecting Meggie Tsiu Resha Building and LED offices to the municipal water mainline.
• Installing necessary control points such as pressure gauges, pumps, stop valves, and scour valves.
• Upgrading the water supply infrastructure, including piping, excavation, and testing.
• Designing and installing a new water supply system integrated with existing infrastructure.
• Conducting borehole water testing and installing water meters and rainwater gauges.
• Ensuring seamless switching between main and backup water sources.
• Completing the project within a 2-month timeframe from appointment.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify:

• Provision of schematic water connection drawings by qualified professionals.
• Use of approved, SABS-marked materials compliant with relevant standards (e.g., SANS 10252-1, SABS 966).
• Excavation up to 1.2 meters deep for piping, with proper backfilling and compaction.
• Installation of piping (up to 75mm MPVC), pressure pumps, and control valves.
• Design and installation of a new water supply system with backup borehole connection.
• Water testing for pH and portability, and installation of water meters and rainwater gauges.
• Leak and pressure testing of the entire system.
• Compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires bidders to demonstrate:

• Proven experience in water infrastructure projects, with successful completion of similar projects (minimum of three references).
• Qualified personnel, including a Project Manager with at least 5 years of experience, and registered engineers or technologists with relevant qualifications (e.g., Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, registration with ECSA).
• Ability to prepare detailed schematic drawings and technical reports.
• Competence in excavation, piping installation, system integration, and water testing.
• Knowledge of applicable standards and regulations (SABS, SANS).
• Capacity to complete the project within the specified timeframe and budget.
