Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure an annual service to maintain and ensure the proper functioning, safety, and longevity of boom gates at specified locations including Natalia, Old Boys Model School, CPS, and Townhill Office Park. The service aims to perform inspections, cleaning, lubrication, adjustments, testing, and repairs to faulty systems, as well as replacement of broken components, to ensure reliable operation and safety compliance.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Visual inspection of all components, signs of wear, damage, rust, or corrosion, including boom arms, housing cabinets, and mounting hardware.
• Cleaning of the entire boom gate system to remove dust, grime, and debris.
• Checking for physical damages such as cracks or dents on the boom arm.
• Functionality testing of opening/closing cycles, stopping positions, and smooth operation.
• Lubrication of moving parts like motors, gears, springs, and joints.
• Adjusting counterbalance springs or weights for proper balance.
• Inspection of control panels, wiring, and safety devices including loop detectors, infrared sensors, photocells, and safety edges.
• Motor diagnostics for unusual noises or overheating.
• Checking power supply and backup systems.
• Repair of faulty systems and replacement of broken boom gate pipes and accessories.
• Testing repaired systems in the presence of maintenance personnel.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that:

• All electrical work must conform to the Department of Health Standard Specification for Electrical Equipment and Installation.
• All low voltage systems must comply with relevant SABS and IEC standards.
• An Electrical Certificate of Compliance, in accordance with the OHS Act, must be provided for electrical works.
• All components and materials used must be new, unused, and of the latest type or pattern, preferably SABS marked.
• Work shall include commissioning, testing, and handing over in working order.
• All repairs and replacements must meet safety standards and be completed within the specified contract period of one week.

Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• CIDB contractor grading of 1 ME or higher, with proof of registration.
• Qualified personnel with relevant trade certification (e.g., Mechanical Trade Test).
• Experience in similar maintenance and repair projects involving boom gate systems.
• Competence in electrical and mechanical inspection, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Ability to prepare detailed service reports and ensure compliance with safety and technical standards.
