Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a service provider responsible for performing manual grave digging services, including loading, transporting, and collapsing graves, as and when required by the Knysna Municipality over a period of 12 months.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Manual digging of graves for different sizes: casket, standard, and child's graves, with specified dimensions.
• Loading and transporting shoring boxes within Hunters Home Cemetery.
• Assisting with collapsing graves and inserting grave shoring.
• Verification of grave dimensions using supplied templates.
• Compliance with health and safety regulations and indemnification requirements.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Manual excavation of graves with tools such as spades, shovels, picks, and tape measures (municipality will not supply tools).
• Adherence to specified grave dimensions:
• Casket grave: Length 3000mm, Width 1100mm, Depth 1900mm
• Standard grave: Length 3000mm, Width 1100mm, Depth 1900mm
• Child’s grave: Length 1500mm, Width 700mm, Depth 1500mm
• Verification of grave sizes with templates supplied by the municipality.
• Loading and transporting shoring boxes within the cemetery.
• Compliance with health and safety standards, including registration with Workmen’s Compensation and Occupational Health & Safety Acts.
• Provision of necessary protective clothing and safety gear.
• Indemnification against claims arising from negligence or safety breaches.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Relevant experience in manual grave digging or similar civil works, supported by reference letters or purchase orders.
• Ability to operate manual tools safely and efficiently.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations applicable to manual excavation and construction work.
• Capacity to verify grave dimensions accurately using templates.
• Competence in handling loading and transportation within cemetery grounds.
• Proper training of employees in occupational health and safety standards.
• Availability of qualified personnel capable of executing the scope of work as specified.
