Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to establish a 6-month contract for porter and messenger services at Victoria Mxenge Hospital, ensuring efficient patient transport, specimen handling, waste management, and general support within the hospital environment.

Scope

The scope includes providing 15 units of porter and messenger personnel to cover various hospital departments, including clinical wards, theatres, radiology, trauma, hygiene & grounds, and supply chain management. The services encompass patient transportation, handling of hospital equipment, specimen transfer, waste management, and support during emergencies, over a period of six months.

Technical Requirements

• Provision of 15 trained porters/messengers to cover specified operational times, including weekends and public holidays.
• Personnel must be neatly dressed in uniform with visible ID badges and company branding.
• Porters must assist with patient transfers, ambulance stretcher movement, specimen transport, and waste management.
• Supervision by designated ward managers with attendance registers maintained.
• Provision of uniforms, safety shoes, and in-service training for staff.
• Compliance with health and safety protocols, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
• All staff must have baseline medical certificates, and the service provider must ensure proper payroll and statutory compliance.
• Adherence to hospital policies on working hours, leave, and emergency support.

Skills Requirements

• Ability to operate patient handling equipment such as wheelchairs and stretchers safely.
• Good communication and respectful interaction with patients, staff, and visitors.
• Knowledge of hospital safety and health protocols.
• Capacity to work in a team, follow supervision, and maintain confidentiality.
• Training in customer service and emergency response procedures.
• Understanding of infection control and waste management practices.
• Compliance with statutory requirements including Department of Labour registration, COID, UIF, and tax clearance.
