Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified transport service provider to safely, efficiently, and compliantly load, transport, and deliver four (4) 35-ton containers from the Port of Cape Town (Inospace, Paarden Eiland) to the Port of Durban (SAS Shipyard, Bayhead). The service aims to ensure timely delivery while adhering to all relevant safety and regulatory standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Loading and unloading of four (4) standard 20 ft containers containing machinery/engineering equipment.
• Transportation of containers from Cape Town to Durban using certified heavy-duty trucking equipment.
• Coordination of arrival times with receiving personnel in Durban.
• Ensuring safe and compliant delivery in accordance with applicable regulations.
• Providing proof of delivery and maintaining cargo integrity without damage.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the service provider include:

• Use of heavy-duty trucks capable of carrying 35-ton loads.
• Provision of suitable trailers (skeleton, flatbed, or low-bed) for container transport.
• Supply of twistlocks and container securing equipment.
• Compliance with the National Road Traffic Act, load securement and dangerous goods regulations (if applicable), overload permits, weighbridge requirements, and Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Adherence to company-specific site safety rules at both facilities.
• Implementation of correct load securement methods (chains, twistlocks, straps, corner locks).
• Conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Management of driver fatigue and maintenance of daily vehicle log sheets.
• Provision of PPE for drivers (hard hat, safety boots, high-visibility vest).
• Provision of appropriate insurance coverage, including Goods in Transit (GIT), third-party liability, and vehicle insurance, with proof submitted alongside the proposal.

Skills Requirements

The skills and competencies required from the service provider include:

• Experience in heavy-duty container transportation and logistics.
• Knowledge of relevant safety and regulatory standards.
• Ability to coordinate logistics effectively, including scheduling and contingency planning.
• Strong communication skills, including providing daily updates and immediate reporting of delays or incidents.
• Dedicated project management with a designated contact person.
• Capability to handle insurance documentation and compliance requirements.
