Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified, accredited media monitoring service provider to conduct a back search of media coverage for Johannesburg as a tourism destination during the period 1 July to 30 September 2025. This is necessary due to a lapse in service during this quarter, and the resulting media analysis report will serve as a key performance indicator (KPI) for Johannesburg Tourism.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Conducting a comprehensive back search of editorial media exposure across broadcast, print, and online platforms in South Africa for the specified period.
• Monitoring coverage related to key Johannesburg tourism events such as Galaxy Joburg Day, Basha Uhuru Festival, DStv Delicious International Music and Food Festival, and Standard Bank Joy of Jazz.
• Gathering detailed media coverage data including article descriptions, AVE (Advertising Value Equivalent), reach, media type, source, sentiment, publication date, headlines, authors, and relevant program or page details.
• Producing a media analysis report that includes quantitative data (number of articles/inserts and AVE) and qualitative insights (trends, top issues, tone).
• Applying AVE methodology based solely on rate card rates without multipliers, for print, online, and broadcast media.

Technical Requirements

• The service provider must be accredited and capable of conducting a back search for media coverage across all relevant media sectors in South Africa.
• The media coverage must include detailed metadata such as article descriptions, AVE, reach, source, sentiment, and publication details.
• The media analysis report must include both quantitative metrics and qualitative insights, highlighting trends, issues, and tone.
• All AVE calculations must be based on full-rate card rates, with no multipliers applied.
• The provider must deliver the final reports within a specified timeframe, adhering to the contract period.

Skills Requirements

• Proven experience in media monitoring and analysis, particularly in South African media sectors (broadcast, print, online).
• Accreditation as a media monitoring agency or service provider.
• Ability to produce detailed, accurate, and comprehensive media analysis reports.
• Expertise in AVE methodology and media measurement techniques.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret media coverage trends, issues, and sentiment.
• Effective communication skills for reporting and presenting findings.
