Objectives

The primary objective is to restore the operational functionality of a faulty borehole water supply system at Injabulo Clinic. The project aims to resolve existing mechanical and plumbing faults, replace degraded components, and ensure a reliable, safe water source for clinical and facility operations.

Scope of Work

• Conduct a full investigation and repair of the faulty borehole system.
• Supply and install two complete elevated tank filters matching existing specifications.
• Repair leaking sections of the main water pipe supply.
• Excavate, remove, and replace approximately 40 metres of 28mm main water supply piping.
• Prepare and submit a comprehensive site-specific safety file.
• Commission, test, and hand over the fully operational system in the presence of hospital maintenance personnel.
• Maintain daily progress reports and attendance registers throughout the contract period.

Technical Requirements

• All works must comply with the Department of Health Standard Specifications for borehole repairs and the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993.
• Materials, fittings, and components must be new, unused, and preferably SABS-certified.
• Work must commence within seven days of contract award and be completed within a one-week execution window.
• A minimum six-month guarantee applies to all repairs and supplied parts; a twelve-month guarantee covers any newly installed equipment or installations.
• Final acceptance requires successful pressure and flow testing conducted alongside designated maintenance staff.
• Delay penalties will be applied at a rate of 0.04% per calendar day for non-compliance with the agreed schedule.

Skills and Qualification Requirements

• Valid CIDB grading of 1ME or higher.
• Current Mechanical Trade Test Certificate.
• Documented proof of experience: at least one previously completed borehole repair or servicing contract, accompanied by a completion certificate.
• Deployment of qualified tradespersons under the direct supervision of a competent site representative authorised to manage works and interface with the client.
• Proven capability in trenching, pipework installation, pump/borehole diagnostics, and healthcare facility compliance standards.

If the contractor fails to respond promptly to defect notifications, the client reserves the right to appoint a third party to perform the repairs, with all costs recovered from the original contractor.
