Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply, install, test, configure, and commission a zoned background music and paging audio system for Joburg Theatre’s Stages Restaurant. The system aims to provide independent zone control for background music and paging across three zones, supporting both 100V line and low-impedance loudspeaker operation, ensuring a stable, commercial-grade solution suitable for daily hospitality use.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Provision of audio signal processing, amplification, control, cabling, and labour.
• Testing, verification, and reporting on existing loudspeakers’ operational status, impedance, polarity, and safe loading prior to final commissioning.
• Configuration of the system into three independently controllable zones with volume and muting controls via wall-mounted controllers.
• Supply and installation of speaker cabling (100V-rated for wall speakers and low-impedance for ceiling speakers).
• Supply and installation of network/control cabling (CAT5e or CAT6) for DSP configuration and wall controllers.
• Installation, programming, testing, and commissioning of DSP and amplification equipment.
• Provision of documentation including as-built diagrams, configuration files, datasheets, and warranty info.

Technical Requirements

System Components

• Digital Signal Processor (DSP) with at least 8 analogue line-level inputs/outputs, 48 kHz sampling, integrated EQ, dynamics, routing, delay, loudspeaker management, Ethernet port, rack-mountable (1U).
• Amplifiers: 4 independent channels, minimum 250W RMS each, configurable for 100V line or low impedance (down to 4 Ohms), with Euroblock outputs, rack-mountable (1U).
• Control interface: Wall-mounted user control panels with volume, source selection, and muting, compatible with RS-485/Ethernet, single-gang mounting, suitable for public areas.
• Speakers: Existing ceiling and wall-mounted speakers (6 × 100V line loudspeakers and 8 × 6.5" ceiling speakers). All speakers must be tested and verified prior to commissioning.

Installation & Cabling

• Supply and installation of speaker cabling (100V-rated and low impedance).
• Supply and installation of network/control cabling (CAT5e or CAT6).
• Neat cable management, labelling, and compliance with safety standards.

Programming & Commissioning

• Configuration of DSP for three zones with independent routing, EQ, and protection.
• Testing of all speakers and zones, verification of impedance, polarity, and signal integrity.
• End-user demonstration and handover documentation.

Skills Requirements

• Proficiency in audio signal processing, DSP programming, and system configuration.
• Experience in installing and commissioning commercial audio systems, especially in hospitality environments.
• Qualified technicians capable of cabling, equipment installation, and testing.
• Ability to prepare detailed documentation, including as-built diagrams and configuration files.
• Knowledge of safety standards and compliance requirements for electrical and audio installations.
