Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the testing, servicing, and replacement of the fire smoke extraction system at the Central Provincial Stores (CPS). The aim is to ensure the fire safety systems are operational, compliant with relevant standards, and maintained to prevent fire hazards and ensure safety within the facility.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Inspection, testing, and servicing of existing fire smoke extraction systems, including fans, ventilators, sensors, and control systems.
• Replacement of faulty components such as smoke extraction fans, electromechanical ventilators, control systems, ducting, sensors, and window actuators.
• Installation of new equipment, including supply, delivery, and commissioning of replacement parts like variable speed drives and batteries.
• Ensuring minimal disruption to the facility’s operations during the work.
• Provision of guarantees and after-service support for a period of 12 months.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that:

• All work must comply with the South African National Standards (SANS), Occupational Health and Safety Act, and relevant building regulations.
• Equipment used must be new, unused, and SABS approved, with certification issued by the servicing authority.
• Inspection, testing, and servicing must adhere to standards such as EN12101, SANS 10400, and SANS 10142.
• Installation must be completed within two days from site handover, with a detailed program of works submitted for approval.
• All artisans must produce valid trade certificates before commencing work.
• Guarantee of all materials and installations for 12 months post-completion.

Skills Requirements

The bidder must demonstrate:

• CIDB contractor grading of 1SF or higher.
• Qualified personnel, including trade-tested artisans (e.g., electrical trade test certificates).
• Previous experience with similar fire safety systems, supported by relevant order or completion certificates.
• Capability to carry out inspection, testing, servicing, and replacement work in accordance with technical standards and safety regulations.
• Availability of skilled tradesmen with appropriate certifications and experience to ensure quality workmanship.
