Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified contractor to design, supply, and install a comprehensive solar power system, including solar panels, inverter, backup batteries, and water tanks for the borehole pump at the Thohoyandou National Botanical Garden in Limpopo. Additionally, the project aims to establish a water infrastructure system with water tanks and pumps, ensuring reliable water supply and sustainable energy solutions for the site.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Design, supply, and installation of a hybrid solar PV system with backup batteries capable of providing at least 10 hours of power backup for the borehole pump.
• Procurement and installation of solar panels, inverter, batteries, and associated electrical infrastructure.
• Construction and installation of three 10,000-litre water tanks, including all piping, pumps, and connections to the existing water system.
• Linking water tanks to the SANBI water network and installing three water pumps, sized appropriately for the tanks.
• Site preparation, including site clearing, installation of concrete plinths, and fencing as necessary.
• Commissioning, testing, and training of SANBI staff on operation and maintenance.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Solar PV system compliant with SANS standards, including PV modules, galvanised mounting structures, inverters (supporting Wi-Fi or GSM monitoring), and surge protection.
• Battery bank: Lithium-ion batteries supporting 10 hours of backup power, with BMS and monitoring portal.
• Electrical infrastructure: cabling, cable trays, junction boxes, and protection devices compliant with IEC 62930 standards.
• Water tanks: 10,000-litre capacity tanks with all necessary piping, pumps, and electrical connections.
• All equipment must be installed by professionally registered engineers and certified according to relevant South African standards (SANS).
• Design, supply, and installation must include all necessary COC’s, testing, and commissioning procedures.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) for design engineers.
• Professional installation by certified technicians with relevant experience in solar PV systems, electrical infrastructure, and water tank installations.
• Proven experience in similar projects within the last ten years, supported by reference letters and completion certificates.
• Qualified personnel including a Site Agent, OHS Officer, and Master Electrician, with valid certifications and relevant work experience.
• Compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, including the preparation of a comprehensive Health and Safety Plan.
• Ability to coordinate with SANBI for site access, project scheduling, and shutdowns.
