Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply, replace, install, test, commission, and train staff on thirty-three (33) new floor-mounted auditorium chairs at Queen Nandi Regional Hospital. The project aims to upgrade the auditorium seating with modern, compliant, and functional foldable chairs that meet specified standards, ensuring safety, durability, and operational efficiency.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Assessment and removal of existing auditorium chairs, including stripping good-condition chairs from the back rows for reinstallation.
• Complete removal of old back-row seating rails and installation of new mounting rails.
• Supply and installation of thirty-three (33) new foldable auditorium chairs matching existing design and standards.
• Reinstallation of good-condition chairs into the central rows to replace damaged units.
• Ensuring all chairs are securely mounted, levelled, and tested for proper operation.
• Functional testing, commissioning, and staff training on chair operation and maintenance.

Technical Requirements

The chairs must:

• Conform to relevant standards including SANS 1400 series, SANS 11011, and SANS 10400.
• Be brand new, unused, and fully compliant with fire-retardant and load-bearing specifications.
• Feature foldable seats with ergonomic design, dual armrests, and a steel support frame.
• Have mechanisms that operate quietly and smoothly, with tamper-proof fasteners.
• Match existing chairs in size, colour, upholstery, and mounting configuration.
• Be mounted on new heavy-duty floor rails supplied by the contractor.
• Meet safety, fire, and building regulations applicable to hospital environments.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must demonstrate:

• Experience in installing auditorium or institutional seating, with references to similar projects.
• Knowledge of relevant standards (SANS, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Building Regulations).
• Capability to assess existing infrastructure, remove and reinstall seating with minimal disruption.
• Proficiency in safe handling, installation, and testing of heavy, foldable seating units.
• Ability to coordinate installation activities within hospital operational hours, ensuring safety and compliance.
• Provision of qualified personnel for installation, testing, commissioning, and staff training.
