Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified, accredited media monitoring service provider to conduct a back search and produce a comprehensive media analysis report for Johannesburg Tourism for the period 1 July – 30 September 2025 (Q1). This is necessary due to a lapse in service during this period, and the report will serve as a key performance indicator (KPI) by quantifying media exposure and advertising value for Johannesburg as a tourism destination across all media sectors (broadcast, print, online).

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Conducting a back search of editorial media coverage related to Johannesburg tourism across broadcast, print, and online platforms in South Africa for the period 1 July – 30 September 2025.
• Tracking coverage of specific events such as Galaxy Joburg Day, Basha Uhuru Festival, DStv Delicious International Music and Food Festival, and Standard Bank Joy of Jazz.
• Collecting detailed media data including article descriptions, AVE, reach, media type, source, sentiment, publication date, headline, author, and page or program details.
• Producing a media analysis report that includes quantitative data (number of articles/inserts, AVE) and qualitative insights (trends, top issues, tone).
• Applying AVE methodology based solely on rate card rates, without multipliers, for print, online, and broadcast media.

Technical Requirements

The service provider must:

• Perform a comprehensive back search of media coverage in South Africa for the specified period.
• Provide detailed reports with media coverage data, including AVE calculations based on rate card rates.
• Include qualitative analysis highlighting trends, issues, and tone of coverage.
• Use specific keywords related to Johannesburg and tourism, including event names and lifestyle terms.
• Deliver a final media analysis report summarizing quantitative and qualitative findings.
• Ensure all data is accurate, legible, and presented in a clear format suitable for evaluation.

Skills Requirements

The successful service provider must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in media monitoring and analysis, particularly in South African media sectors (broadcast, print, online).
• Accreditation and compliance with media monitoring standards.
• Ability to perform back searches and AVE calculations accurately based on rate card data.
• Strong analytical skills to produce both quantitative reports and qualitative insights.
• Capacity to handle large volumes of media data and deliver timely, comprehensive reports.
• Knowledge of Johannesburg tourism events and relevant keywords for effective media tracking.
