Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified service provider to remove and relocate the Gaiasphere at the Iziko South African Museum. The service provider must ensure the safe deinstallation, rigging, transportation, and reinstallation of the Gaiasphere within a specified proximity (approximately 20 meters) to its current location, adhering to museum standards and health and safety legislation.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Deinstallation of the Gaiasphere as detailed in Appendix 1.
• Relocation and rigging of the Gaiasphere to a new space within the museum premises.
• Reinstallation of the Gaiasphere in the new designated space.
• Provision of all labor, supervision, equipment, lifting hardware, rigging, transport, testing, and commissioning required for the project.
• Maintaining sufficient personnel, facilities, and equipment to ensure proper performance.
• Submission of a health and safety file compliant with relevant legislation.

Technical Requirements

The service provider must:

• Have expertise in rigging and moving heavy objects, specifically museum-grade artifacts.
• Provide all necessary equipment, hardware, and tools for deinstallation, rigging, transportation, and reinstallation.
• Ensure the safety and security of the Gaiasphere during all phases of removal and relocation.
• Comply with all applicable health and safety legislation and museum standards.
• Supply a comprehensive health and safety file prior to commencement.
• Complete all works within the specified timeframe and budget, with detailed cost breakdowns.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in rigging, deinstallation, and relocation of large, delicate objects, preferably within museum or similar environments.
• Technical expertise in handling heavy and sensitive artifacts.
• Capability to provide specialized equipment and hardware for safe handling and transportation.
• Qualified personnel with relevant health and safety certifications.
• Ability to prepare and submit comprehensive health and safety documentation.
• Strong project management skills to coordinate all phases of the work efficiently.
