Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply and install a storage water tank at Joburg Theatre. The project aims to provide a cost-effective, durable, and compliant water storage solution that meets specified technical standards and operational requirements, ensuring reliable water supply for the theatre's needs.

Scope

The scope encompasses the design, supply, and installation of a modular bolted ground water tank with a capacity of 49m³. The work includes:

• Provision of full technical drawings and construction details
• Manufacturing or sourcing of the tank according to specified options (galvanised steel, epoxy-coated steel, or GRP)
• Construction of civil foundations and concrete works
• Steelwork, pipework, and associated equipment installation
• Venting, safety features, and access infrastructure
• Hydrostatic testing, disinfection (if potable), and commissioning
• Provision of warranties, as-built drawings, and operational manuals

The project also includes compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards, as well as post-installation testing and handover procedures.

Tank Specifications

• Capacity: 49m³, modular bolted configuration (3×3×3 panels)
• Design life: 10 years for the tank system; liner/coating: 5–10 years
• Materials options:
  • Galvanised steel panels with potable liner (EPDM, PVC, or PP)
  • Epoxy-coated bolted steel tank
  • GRP sectional panel tank
• Panel grid spacing: 3660mm and 1220mm
• Flanges: PN16, drilled to SABS 1123/77
• Seals/Gaskets: Potable-approved, UV stable
• Roof: Rain-tight, vented, with manway (≥500mm)

Civil & Concrete Works

• Concrete grades: 15/15 (general), 25/19 (slab/walls), 20/19 (mass concrete)
• Base: Level within ±5mm, concrete strength ≥25 MPa
• Dwarf walls: 150mm beyond tank footprint
• Earthing lug connected to site earth system

Steelwork & Pipework

• Galvanised mild steel (SABS 763)
• Fabricated from Grade B steel, ≥6mm wall thickness
• Epoxy coating: external 350μm, internal 250μm
• Flanges: SABS 1123/77 rated and drilled; bolts: galvanised SABS 753
• Buried flanges: cathodically bonded, wrapped with Denso mastic
• Mass concrete plinths under valves

Hydraulic Connections & Nozzles

• Inlet: DN100
• Outlet: DN150
• Overflow: DN100 or larger
• Drain: DN80
• Equipment: isolation valves, anti-vortex screens, downpipes, flexible couplings

Testing & Commissioning

• Hydrostatic test: fill and hold for 24 hours, no leaks
• Disinfection: chlorination, flushing, testing (if potable)
• Functional tests: valves, vents, level instrumentation
• Documentation: training, manuals, as-built drawings, certificates

Warranties & Maintenance

• Tank system: minimum 12 months
• Liner/coating: 5–10 years
• Warranty terms: declared by vendor, including corrosion protection

Skills Requirements

The successful service provider must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in designing, manufacturing, and installing similar water storage tanks (minimum of 5 projects)
• Qualified personnel including:
  • Civil engineers or technologists (ECSA registered) with ≥5 years experience
  • Site managers with ≥5 years experience in civil/steel tank projects
  • Safety managers with SACPCMP registration and ≥2 years experience
• Capability to produce detailed technical drawings and construction plans
• Ability to execute civil, steelwork, pipework, and commissioning activities to high standards
• Qualified and experienced project team with CVs, certifications, and relevant project references
• Demonstrated capacity for quality assurance, safety management, and environmental compliance

The bidder must also provide a comprehensive project implementation plan, risk management strategy, and methodology for executing the project within the specified timeline.
