Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a contractor responsible for designing, supplying, installing, testing, and commissioning new generator sets, including their integration with solar farms, at Upington International, George, and Kimberley Airports. The project aims to enhance the airports' power resilience and incorporate renewable energy solutions over a period of three years.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Design and approval of electrical and mechanical systems for generator installation and solar farm integration.
• Supply and installation of generator sets (including 2 x 800kVA at George, 1 x 200kVA at George, and 2 x 500kVA at Kimberley, as per specific project requirements).
• Decommissioning of existing generators and tanks, and installation of new tanks and associated fuel systems.
• Construction of generator rooms compliant with relevant standards.
• Integration of solar photovoltaic systems with generator sets.
• Testing, commissioning, and certification of all systems.
• Provision of project management, site supervision, and closeout documentation.
• Provision of dayworks and training for client staff.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Installation of generator sets with appropriate exhaust systems, sound attenuation, and control panels.
• Integration with existing electrical networks and SCADA systems.
• Provision of fuel tanks (including upgrade of existing tanks) and fuel management systems.
• Compliance with relevant standards such as SANS 10400 and SANS 204.
• Inclusion of solar farm integration, including SMA Fuel Save System and interface with PV plant.
• Provision of metering, automatic transfer switches, and control systems.
• Construction of generator rooms with necessary ventilation and safety features.
• All testing and certification to ensure operational compliance and safety.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in designing and installing large-scale generator and renewable energy systems.
• Capability to manage complex electrical and mechanical integration projects.
• Expertise in solar farm integration and control systems.
• Competence in project management, site supervision, and quality assurance.
• Ability to prepare detailed design reports, drawings, and closeout documentation.
• Knowledge of relevant standards, safety regulations, and environmental considerations.
• Capacity to coordinate with authorities for permits and approvals.
