Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to secure services for the handling, transportation, packaging, storage, and reinstatement of museum artifacts and household furniture related to the Nelson Mandela Prison House Museum in Paarl. The aim is to ensure the safe and professional management of the museum collection over a specified period, including offsite storage and eventual return to the museum site.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Removal of the museum collection from its current offsite storage location.
• Transportation of the collection to a new storage facility.
• Provision of secure storage for six months, with potential extension.
• Additional packing and handling services as required prior to transportation.
• Return transportation of the collection back to the museum after storage period.
• Unpacking, placement, and reinstatement of artifacts within the museum premises.
• Provision of comprehensive insurance coverage for the collection during the contract period.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Professional handling and transportation of museum artifacts and household furniture.
• Secure and appropriate packing materials and methods to prevent damage.
• Provision of secure storage facilities with adequate safety measures.
• Unpacking and reinstatement services that ensure artifacts are returned to their original or designated locations.
• Insurance coverage of at least R100,000 for the collection during the contract period.
• Compliance with all relevant safety, security, and conservation standards for museum collections.
