Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure, install, commission, calibrate, and provide comprehensive training for a 100kN creep testing machine. The initiative aims to enhance the University of Johannesburg’s research infrastructure, support advanced materials testing, and develop technical skills among students aligned with industry needs. The project also seeks to ensure the equipment’s long-term sustainability through proper commissioning, calibration, and training.

Scope

The scope encompasses the full lifecycle of the equipment and services, including:

• Procurement of the 100kN creep testing machine with specified technical features.
• Delivery and installation of the equipment at UJ premises.
• Commissioning and calibration to ensure operational readiness and accuracy.
• Provision of comprehensive training to UJ staff on operation, maintenance, and calibration.
• Provision of spare parts, after-sales support, and maintenance for a specified period.
• Provision of related accessories, software, and support infrastructure such as UPS and tools.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Capacity: 100kN with a load range of 2kN – 100kN.
• Load repeatability: better than 0.5%.
• Furnace: capable of reaching 1200°C with three-zone temperature control and uniform temperature over 200mm.
• Power supply: three-phase supply.
• Thermocouples: high-temperature types S and K.
• Specimen grips: suitable for flat and round samples (M22, M16, M12 threads).
• Extensometers: capable of measuring flat and round specimens.
• Software: for data acquisition, apparatus control, specimen registration, and report generation.
• Accessories: height gauge, computer system (with specified hardware and software), UPS, and tools.
• Spare parts and support: free spare parts for the initial period and additional parts for two years.

Skills Requirements

The skills and expertise required from the service provider include:

• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in similar equipment procurement, installation, and calibration services.
• Proven track record with references demonstrating successful delivery of similar testing machines.
• Capability to provide comprehensive after-sales support, maintenance, and calibration services.
• Qualified technical personnel with expertise in mechanical testing equipment, calibration, and software integration.
• Ability to deliver training to UJ staff on operation, calibration, and maintenance procedures.
• Knowledge of relevant standards (SANS, ISO) and compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations.
