Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure the supply and installation of fifteen (15) homestead lightning conductors for the uMgungundlovu District Municipality, specifically targeting the Mpofana Local Municipality Ward 2 and 4. The project aims to enhance lightning protection and earthing systems in the designated areas, ensuring safety and compliance with relevant standards.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Supply of fifteen (15) homestead lightning conductors as per specifications.
• Installation of the lightning conductors at the specified locations within the targeted wards.
• Provision of all necessary components, including:
• 3m x 76mm Nominal Bore pipe (Base)
• 6m x 60mm Nominal Bore pipe (Mid)
• 3m x 40mm Nominal Bore pipe (Top)
• Reducing bushes for mast sections
• Earthing system components, including copper-clad earth rods and earth mat connections

The installation must adhere to the standards specified (SANS 10313/SANS 62305) and be capable of withstanding high winds and environmental conditions.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Use of a 1EP or higher CIDB graded contractor.
• Provision of two reference letters for similar projects completed within the past 2 years.
• Earthing system with earth resistance below specified limits, using four 1.5m copper-clad earth rods arranged in a square ("crown" or "crowfoot" method).
• Connection of the earth mat to the mast base with a 70mm² copper conductor.
• Compliance with SANS 10313/SANS 62305 standards for rural electrification/disaster management.
• Design and installation capable of withstanding high winds and environmental stresses.

Skills and Qualifications Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate:

• Registration on the Central Supplier Database (CSD).
• CIDB Grading of at least 1EP or higher.
• Relevant experience evidenced by at least two reference letters for similar supply and installation projects within the last two years.
• Capability to supply and install lightning conductors according to technical standards and specifications.
• Compliance with municipal procurement policies and regulations.

Additionally, bidders should have personnel with the necessary technical expertise in lightning protection systems, earthing, and installation procedures aligned with the specified standards.
