Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a service provider responsible for the installation, repairs, maintenance, and replacement of automated and non-automated gates at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden over a period of five years. The service provider shall ensure that all gates operate efficiently, safely, and reliably, meeting the functional and safety standards specified by SANBI.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Installation, servicing, repair, and maintenance of existing automated gates, boom gates, and associated gate motors at various locations within the Garden.
• Attending to fault calls, inspecting, refilling, re-gassing, modifying, testing, and commissioning gate systems.
• Ensuring all materials and equipment originate from reputable manufacturers and conform to relevant standards.
• Providing routine servicing and maintenance for gate motors, boom gates, sensors, control devices, and related consumables over the five-year contract period.
• Adhering to health, safety, and environmental regulations during all works.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements encompass:

• Proper execution of installation, repairs, and maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications, relevant standards (e.g., SANS, Occupational Health and Safety Act), and municipal regulations.
• Use of qualified personnel with appropriate experience and certifications, including electricians, artisans, and technicians with wireman’s licenses and relevant qualifications.
• Provision of all necessary tools, equipment, and materials for the execution of works, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
• Testing, adjusting, and certifying all equipment post-installation or repair, with proper documentation and sign-off procedures.
• Implementation of a comprehensive health and safety plan, including risk assessments, incident reporting, and compliance with construction regulations.
• Adherence to specified service and maintenance schedules, including routine checks, refilling, and testing of gate systems.

Skills Requirements

The successful service provider must demonstrate:

• Relevant experience in installing, repairing, and maintaining automated gate systems and boom gates, with a proven track record of similar projects (minimum of 9 years preferred).
• Capability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, with references and evidence of previous work undertaken.
• Qualified personnel, including electricians and artisans, with certifications such as wireman’s licenses and trade certificates.
• Knowledge of relevant standards, regulations, and safety procedures, including SANS specifications and Occupational Health and Safety Act compliance.
• Ability to provide comprehensive maintenance services, including troubleshooting, refilling, re-gassing, and testing of gate systems.
• Capacity to prepare and implement health and safety plans, risk assessments, and incident management procedures.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to coordinate with SANBI’s project management team.
