Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to design, supply, install, and refurbish solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems within the Gauteng Cluster. The project aims to establish microgrid storage containers on an as-and-when-required basis over a period of five years, enhancing renewable energy generation and storage capabilities in the region.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Pre-construction activities including site assessment, feasibility studies, detailed engineering and design, and application/registration with Eskom or municipal utility.
• Construction of PV systems with modules, mounting structures (roof, parking, hollow containers), hybrid inverters, batteries (LFP), and balance of system components (BoS).
• Post-construction activities such as testing, commissioning, certification, and optional training for installers and maintenance staff.
• Additional services including internet connectivity for remote monitoring where no fixed-line broadband is available.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• PV modules with a minimum capacity of 550W each.
• Mounting systems suitable for roof, parking structures, and hollow containers.
• Hybrid inverters compliant with NRS-097-2-1 standards capable of handling multiple energy sources.
• Lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with appropriate installation and safety enclosures.
• Balance of system components such as cabling, protection devices, junction boxes, and distribution boards, within a 20m distance from the customer’s distribution board.
• Compliance with relevant standards including SANS 10142-1, SANS 10142-1-2, and SAPVIA PV GreenCard or equivalent.
• Functional testing, safety checks, and certification upon completion.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires personnel with the following skills and qualifications:

• Registered SACPCMP Construction Managers (proof of registration required).
• Qualified safety officers with relevant experience.
• Skilled installers and maintenance staff trained in PV GreenCard or equivalent courses, with both theoretical and practical knowledge.
• Electricians capable of producing Certificates of Compliance (CoC) in accordance with SANS standards.
• Personnel experienced in site assessment, system design, and engineering documentation.
• Project management and environmental management skills for site maintenance and rehabilitation.
